Support from Lembit
Having spent some time with Lembit Opik MP I am pleased to say he is supporting the campaign and will be present at our next meeting on the 12th January 2010 when we hope to put together something regarding the VAT situation to the Treasury as well as look at options to move things forward following our meeting with David Lammy.

I wish you every success. I have worked extensively with the Guild of Air Pilots, the RAeS and the British Business and General Aviation (BBGA) to raise this issue with HMG. Until now sadly with little success but after considerable expenditure of effort in meetings and written summaries. I do hope that at last it will bear fruit!
I work for Oxford Aviation Academy (OAA) and I believe it is scandalous that we expect such highly paid professionals as Commercial Pilots to have to pay all of the costs of their training and then VAT on top. At OAA we provide a Foundation Degree with our ab-initio training programme, as more and more trainess like your aspirant pilot Tim just cannot afford to do both a university degree and their pilot training.
Effectively the current situation is barring lower income families from getting young people into commercial aviation and there is little assistance either from school careers services. This level of discrimination does not exist in any equivalent profession I can think of.

Thank you for your support. It would be a great help if you could get people to sign the “support us” page. Onwards and, hopefully, upwards.
